HRNA stands for the Historic Riverside
Neighborhood Association. It encompasses the area delimited by Jack
Smith’s Creek to the north, west to the train tracks up to National Court, east
to the river, and south to Guion Street.
The purpose of the HRNA is to:
Ø
represent
the community on issues involving the City of New Bern government
Ø
actively
work with residents and the city on issues related to appearance and safety
Ø
actively
work with residents in the historic district and the city on issues related to
historic preservation guidelines
Membership is only $15 per year per Household
(January-December). New Residents may qualify for a FREE membership!
HRNA works with the Downtown Association
(HDRA) and the city government to stay abreast of issues and activities that
may affect the Riverside community, property values, and public safety.
We produce a newsletter to keep residents informed about what is going on. We
also hold monthly meetings, community cleanups, a 4th of July
picnic, other social events and a Progressive Dinner at Christmas.
As a member, you receive meeting notices and
the newsletter. You also have a vote for election of officers and have a
say in actions that HRNA takes.
Where does the money go? It takes gas
and refreshments for the cleanups. We pay an annual fee to the Riverside
Methodist Church for use of their facilities. We have to pay for printing
of the newsletter and other printed materials distributed to residents.
We occasionally make a financial contribution to other help-based organizations
in New Bern.
